Vinaykant Ruparelia MBE

We are delighted to announce that our chairperson Vinay Ruparelia has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list. Vinay was awarded the MBE for services to local enterprise, tourism and to the community. As well as all his work for Books Abroad, Vinay is heavily involved in many other charities and local organisations such as Turning Point, Portsoy Boat Festival, Boyndie Trust

Roundup of the latest news

Here is an update on what has been happening recently and some of our upcoming plans. We will give you more detailed news on these shipments at a later date. Our Sri Lankan container is due to arrive in Colombo at Christmas after delays at Rotterdam and our Zimbabwe container is due to arrive in late January 2021. Mini Library at Chapel of Garioch

Lorna Bell one of our Trustees has been working with Chapel of Garioch Tea room and re-purposed an old red telephone box into a mini library for their area.  More details to follow when this is up and running.  Books Abroad volunteers will stock it up with books in the near future. Zimbabwe shipment planned

On the 9th November, we have planned for our next container shipment to Zimbabwe to begin its journey. This container is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe in the middle of January 2021. We are back to using our standard size pallets so 30 boxes can fit on instead of 24 on a Euro sized pallet. The pallets will be distributed to various schools in the Bulawayo

Sri Lanka Container Update

We are pleased to announce that at long last our shipment of books for Sri Lanka is on its way. We had it ready for dispatch in early 2020 but local elections in Sri Lanka and then the onset of Covid-19 delayed the shipment. Various sizes of pallets had to be used this time which caused a lot of extra work for our volunteers but they
