Strawberry Farmer, Kenya
A young Kenyan man happened to see a book on gardening and on the front page was a photo of plump, red strawberries. The man decided to take the book home with him and try to grow some plants. A few months later, he had hundreds of plants, each strawberry has hundreds of seeds and so it didn’t take long to build his business. He was not only able to earn enough to feed his family but also to start employing others from the local area.
This highlights the Books Abroad belief that the provision of books promotes literacy, education and understanding to provide a means of sustainable escape from the plight of poverty in developing countries.
